Tremor

A Tremor In The Morning, 1986, Peter Blum Edition, New York, linoleum cuts by Alex Katz, edition of 300

Julian of Oxford

She knelt by the stream
and wetted her archaic English
beauty’s fingers.
                       A man approached
bathed in a diadem, and took
her hand through metaphysical
wishes.
           She screams
in her flowers, but her eyes
smile gently.
                  She is Julian
of Oxford. A tabulated circus
bus breathes by her window,
her hand stretches. Library birds
snatch at fragments above
pilaster dreams.
